Details for: Iliamna
The north face of 3053-m-high Iliamna Volcano, one of the Cook Inlet volcanoes monitored by the Alaska Volcano Observatory, is seen in this May 6, 1986 aerial view. Steam and volcanic gas rise from the nearly continuously active fumaroles high on the east and south flanks of the volcano. Occasional episodes of more intense steam emission have often been mistaken for eruptive activity at Iliamna by viewers across Cook Inlet.
